I went from an Intel based 2019 16" to a M1 Max MBP 16". I have two monitors connected via Thunderbolt (an XDR and an LG 5K).
On the 2019 I can slide windows from monitor to monitor and leave a Windows in the middle (a section on each monitor). On the M1Max it slides OK but it has to go on one or the other monitor - will not display as it is on the 2019, visible completely if left on the two monitors even if a part of the windows is on each monitor.

Another annoyance is I selected the XDR on the right to have the menu Bar and Dock. However the left monitor also displays the menu bar on top (greyed out when not at that monitor). This was not the behaviour with the Intel based 2019. The menu bar resided only on the one monitor. The display properties on the system preference have no choices I can find to alter this behaviour.

With the horrible image retention on the LG I rather not have the top bar menu stay there at all times.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Go to settings, open mission control and uncheck “Displays have separate spaces”, A logon is required afterwards.

Besides that, I’ve encountered several issues also with external displays. Stuck menu screens, menu screens in front of applications and blocking certain things etc.. hopefully they sort these things out as soon as possible.

Thanks. I was scratching my head to figure out if this had something to with the new MBP or Monterey or the dock! (My preference is to have this "displays have separate spaces" unchecked.)

You’re welcome!
Can you or @likegadgets please tell me how Mission Control behaves in the following 2 scenarios:

1) MBP connected to external monitor, with MBP in clamshell. Extensive use of multiple Desktops in Mission Control. If I disconnect the MBP e.g. for travel, will all of the Desktops and relevant windows/apps appear in Mission Control in the MBP?

2) MBP connected to external monitor but also using the MBP screen. Extensive use of multiple Desktops in Mission Control. Does each Desktop extend to both the internal and external screens? Something else? Either way what happens when you disconnect the MBP and use only its internal display?
