Dual Monitor

Hi, I am new to Mac. Last year I purchased imac 24". I was wondering what needs to be done if I need to have dual monitor?
Please let me know pros/cons associated with it.

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - for monitors up to 24"

Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter - for 30" displays

or

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

Pro: more screen real estate

Contra: more work for the GPU with big monitors and GPU intensive tasks

Any monitors that you would like to suggest ? I will be going for less that 24" for my second monitor.
I am not into gaming OR heavy graphics. This will be more for day to day task nothing intensive.

i would suggest something from Dell or samsung - they seem to be doing ok lately and are fairly reasonably priced

I second Dell.

My Ultrasharp 2408WFP is the best money i've spent. wonderful monitor, unfortunately the one that replaces it is significantly more expensive due to the use of an IPS panel as opposed to the PVA in my model.

which leads me to my next tip when looking for a monitor, learn the differences between the main panel types, TN, PVA and IPS. that'll influence your choice significantly.
