Dual monitors: can't get arrangements tab!

I have recently added an extra monitor to my 800MHz iMac powerPC G4, I have the monitor up and working, automatically it is mirroring my desktop, however I want it to extend my desktop.

Now if I go into my display preferences (OSX4.2) There is no arrangments panel and no button to detect other displays.

If I search for mirror displays a panel comes up and says "your arrangements tab has been hidden as you only have one display"

I have repaired permissions but nothing.
Any suggestions? and please don't say my computer can't have two monitors nonmirroring!!

Technically your computer can't have two monitors nonmirroring.

However, there are always options. Have a look around for "Screen Spanning Doctor," I'm pretty sure it will work with the G4 iMac but just check to site's documentation. Run the script, follow the instructions and you should be up and away.

Chundles is right as usual. You'll be wanting Screen Spanning Doctor.

I was afraid you would say that! Well I checked that screen spanning doctor but it only works with some iMacs but mainly iBooks even G3 iBooks! But not my G4!

Unfortunately I have the early 15" iMac!!!!!

Any similar sites anyone? Im desperate for this, im fed up with cramped stages in Flash!

Oh man, that sucks. I don't know of any other solution or if there even is one. Screen Spanning Doctor, whilst working well, is still just a hack. The machines it was built to work for are designed by Apple not to support dual monitors in anything but mirrored mode and as such it's pretty tricky to get around.

oh dearie me. Such a blag, I went through so much trouble getting the adapter too! Well if I find a solution I will let the site know, no point in anyone else struggling with the same problem!

If your second monitor is big enough, wouldnt mirroring being fine? You''ll just use your second mointor as your primary screen!

But at the same resolution.

Sorry but I don't know that it's possible to span at all with an old iMac like that. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong though.
