I am looking for an USB-C hub for my MacBook Pro M2 Max and am wondering what is the difference between hubs that use both Thunderbolt/USB-C ports and the ones that only use a single port?

I'd guess it may have something to do with providing more power? however, I couldn't find any specific info about it.

It has nothing to do with power, but to provide more ports than a single USB-C port is capable of.

USB-C can only carry one video stream, which is why the Satechi has one HDMI port. The Hama one supports two HDMI displays, because it's using both USB-C ports. However, I'm confused why they are mentioning MST. MacOS does not support MST.

Note: If you want to run two displays through a single cable/port on the Mac, then you need a Thunderbolt hub.
