So this happened to me today and I wasn’t aware of this or expecting it to work like this.
Background -
I have dual SIM enabled on my phone with my personal number as a eSIM card and the business number as a physical SIM card. I have the business number assigned to my business contacts specifically so that I don’t text them inadvertently from my personal number.
Now my personal number is the iMessage enabled number and my business number is with traditional setup with message forwarding enabled between my iPhone and all other iOS / macOS devices.
Situation -
Today, I initiated a conversation with one of the business contacts from the phone and rightly the text was sent from my business number as associated. Then I moved to my Mac and the business contact responded to my message, and I responded from the Mac.
To my surprise, the response from the Mac used my iMessage enabled personal number, rather than the business number.
This is the first time I faced this situation because all my previous non-iMessage communication with Android users were using my personal number, so even though the text was essentially being forwarded to my other Apple devices, when I responded to those forwarded messages, they were being sent from the same number as expected.
Now my business contact has my personal number which I really wanted to avoid. It feels like there’s a gap here that Apple may have missed. Or I’m not sure if I’m missing something here.
