My primary sim is an eSim and supports iMessage.

My secondary sim is a nano sim and does not support iMessage. SMS only.

How do I send an SMS using the secondary line? It always seems to default to iMessage.

I’ve had my dual sim for a few days now and even after a visit to my Apple store it seems it’s impossible to send an SMS from line 2.

The only way it seems possible is for new SMS messages. In this situation you can select which number to send from.

If you already have an ongoing conversation with somebody you cannot send an SMS unless you delete the entire thread and start again as new.

This situation is madness.

How did Apple ever miss this?

If you turn mobile data and WiFi off, it will fail to send as an iMessage. Then you can tell it to send as a text instead and if the contact is set to the 2nd line I’m guessing it will send via that line?

Hmmm. That’s makes sense and I’ll give it a try but then every time I want to do this for each user I send an SMS to I have to change them to 2nd line. Turn off data and Wifi. Send the iMessage. Force it to SMS and then remember to change the user back to line 1.

Surly this dual sim system is not going to be this fiddly.

I have sent the entire morning trying to simply send a SMS from line 2 or to make a call to somebody using line 2 (without having the select the ALWAYS use line 2 option).

It is seriously driving me crazy.

All I want to do is use line 1 when I’m at home.

When I go away with work into countries that don’t have cheap data tariffs I want my company to pay for any SMS messages I send. So then I want to SMS somebody using line 2 and then maybe when I’m on WiFi or back home I’d go back to the default like one.

Imagine if I text 25 people when away on a trip and I have to fart on with the rigmarole above for each and every user.
