Dual tabbed browsing.

Hello. I've done some searching high and low and cannot find something I think would be pretty neat.

I'm a fan of the full screen function from Lion when I had a MacBook, now I have a iMac 27" and things are so... spacious.

Was wondering if there is already (or similar) to have two tabs going at the same time side-by-side.

Im not too sure of the usability, or possible longevity of the idea, but i'd be nice to have the option.

Yeah well at the moment im switching between full screen, and having two windows open in their own desktop.

But this was more a "does it exist" and "would we benefit from it" kind of thread.

I use TotalFinder. Dunno how that stacks up against XtraFinder, but the functionality look similar

I've used it and have found no issues. Besides, it's totally free to dowload and use; tabbed browsing works fine as far as I can tell.

Mind you, this is kind of a beta software; but in its current state it is more than OK, and with updates being released on a regular basis by the developer.

I think (from memory, am on my phone) that if you install bettertouchtool (great program by the way) that it has an option to turn on a feature that let's you do the "windows 7 window sizing": this is where if you drag the top pane out of the left side of the screen, it snaps to occupy the left half of the screen. Do the same to another window on the right and it will snap to fill the right half.

The best thing about XtraFinder compared to something like Forklift is the price. FREE is hard to beat. Frankly, I don't know why Apple doesn't implement its own tabbed Finder and dual-pane options. I dropped them similar suggestions YEARS ago and with each OSX iteration comes major disappointment. Until recently, though I didn't know XtraFinder existed (it wouldn't have helped on my old PPC server anyway). I never felt like paying $40 just to save me some work with dual-pane form opening two Finder windows. But XtraFinder has a menu bar option to create two real Finder windows (stacked either horizontally or vertically, whichever you choose) AND a dual-pane option AND tabs to boot. It's quite lovely.

Interesting. That does seems like a neat idea, especially if you have a large monitor...kind of a dual-pane view for web browsing? I think such a thing would be best addressed in a developer forum for Firefox, Chrome or something (don't know if there's an Apple Safari forum where developers could get ideas; I don't trust Apple's feedback to do anything but dump the suggestions in the trash to be honest from past observation of them ignoring every good idea people have ever said they sent to them).

Oh OK. I don't know about Chrome or Safari, but for Firefox there's an extension called "Tab Mix Plus" that takes care of that really nice! You can set how many tabs appear before it opens another bar of tabs below the first bar. It can customize tabs in many other nice ways as well (e.g. I like the + new tab button to stay fixed on the far left rather than moving to the right of tabs or to the far right and it lets me do that as well).

True, Apple aren't big on that kind of feedback.
