For those with double thick cards on slot 1 AND 2, doesn't the card on slot 2 block the fans of the card on slot 1? Have your experienced overheating issue?

I want to install a rx580 on slot 1, 5870 on slot 2.

Yes I have. I did not ever need two GPUs but I needed the boot screen and so installed my GT120 in slot #2 right above the RX580 in slot #1. I honestly thought a x16 lane PCIe card had to be in a x16 slot, which is false but my incorrect belief led me to create this issue

It worked fine for standard "office/daily" use. Just browsing the web or using apps that are not GPU hungry. First time I played any games, so something that actually needed the GPU, it overheated and shutdown the computer.

Solution was easy, put the GT120 in either slot #3 or #4. No overheating has ever occurred again.

I see. There just doesn't seem to have an obvious solution. Every option has a trade-off....

Thanks for sharing!

Could one use one of those extender cables and mount the other card outside of the chassis?
thinking outside the box here

I think that's what Thunderbolt does. We don't have anything like a "e-PCIe" yet....

I appreciate your post of documentation your setup. It seems sound, for me, to only use the RX 580 for now, as I don't have any application that can really benefit from two video cards.

I used to have two 5770’s in slot 1/2, but they where designed to be back to back as the fans went through the card so cooling both.
Problem with the 5870/5770 over the RX580, the fan is pretty much beyond the position of the RX580 fans...so basically blocking them with the card back.
