Dualbooting Linux on a School Macbook Air

My school recently bought Macbook Airs for all of it's students. I would prefer to use linux on it, but there are some macOS specific programs that we will use. The problem is that my account is not administrator, and there is also a firmware lock which appeared after a program called FileWave installed updates to the computer. Is there anyway around these, or am I stuck using macOS?

Maybe you could consult your school IT department for some help?

If you have no admin access at all, you're stuck unless you can get school IT to ease up. If you can get even temporary admin access, I'd suggest VirtualBox and run linux in a VM as the easiest way forward.

Admins lock down computers for a reason.
Use your school-issued laptop for school things, and get a second-hand Lenovo or Dell business model laptop with Intel graphics for running Linux. That way you won’t break a ”production” machine when you absolutely need it. I know I’m being a bore, but your older you will thank me.
