Hi!

Got my brand new shiny MacBook three weeks ago. Very happy with it, apart from one thing. I downloaded coconutBattery soon after I bought it, and have been dismayed to see the battery capacity quickly diminishing.

After only 11 loadcycles, my capacity is down to only 94% (from 5200mAh to 4916mAh). A 6% loss in capacity, and the MacBook was only manufactured 7 weeks ago - this doesn't seem right.

I calibrated the battery today because I haven't had enough time in the first couple of weeks. This doesn't seem a very likely reason though. Is there a chance my battery is simply a dud?

Cheers,
Connor

Not just a chance, but very good chance. I found out after selling my grandparents' MacBook that the battery was faulty... I think it must've charged a few times and then conked out entirely.

If you find yourself unable to run on battery power and start seeing "no battery recognized" in System Prefs (I believe these are most, but not all of the symptoms) you can be pretty sure you've got a lemon. Fortunately, Apple was quick to respond to the buyer of the MB; she got a new battery in 24 hours. Or you could just go to the local Apple Store.

Mine is about at the same level after maybe 8 cycles, but kind of leveled off at that point. I was wondering myself if my battery is okay, but figured if it stopped depleting, I wouldn't worry about it. However, if the results of this thread suggest otherwise, I'll take the battery in.
