I've never seen this error before

I am trying to use migration assistant to move from one m1 MacBook to another...
I've used migration assistant often with no problems... and my computer is updated.
Any suggestions on what to do?

Sounds like your new system need an update? Probably that you had 11.1 on your old one, and this one came out of the box with 11.0?

Usually, on the machine that will be migrated to it prompts me to update the system before the migration starts. I am seeing this error on the computer I migrating from before it even knows where it is migrating to.

You need to boot the new machine and update it before you can migrate. If necessary, create a temporary account with a unique name to perform the update. Then, after the migration you can delete the temporary account.

Ok. I’ll try that, but this error is happening before I even plug-in the second computer

Oh. Then you still need to update the new machine, but that's not the problem here. Have you searched the net for that error? I don't find anything.

Are you logged into an administrator account?
After you update the new machine, try using it to perform the migration.

Update- I ended up just returning the computer and trying another M1. I didnt want to go through wiping the entire system.
Update- I ended up returning the second M1, it didnt perform as I'd hoped with an extended desktop.
