Dumb mouse with Macbook question.

I think I'm buying a macbook (or should I wait for november...oh no!! )

Anyhow, I know nothing about airports or blue teeth and what have you...

But, I'll need a mouse. So, whats the difference between a usb wireless and a bluetooth wireless mouse?

Does using any of this wireless stuff interfere with your applications (slowing things down for example)

What about a plain old wired usb mouse. Would that interfere with another usb device connected to the computer? I also read somewheres that the usb port on the right side of the macbook differed in that that was the one you plug the mouse in and the usb port on the left side was for peripherals.

Don't laugh...I'm ignorant about this stuff. I'm still on my 10 year old mac desktop.

November? Are you sure you don't mean Leopard in October?

Bluetooth uses power (your battery life will be lower) but you may want an extra USB port free, and not want to waste one of your two on a mouse.

It will be a massive upgrade from your ten year old machine

I tell you, the worst thing I did was find this site and checking in on the rumors page all the time.

I'm one of those fence sitters. I've been wanting to buy a new mac since last november, but its always......"the next great things about to come out" all the time.

I got a budget, I've finally decided on the machine and theres still more talk of new macbooks to coincide with leopard. Drives me nuts!

So the bluetooth use the bluetooth wireless thingy inside the computer?

But then what is this "usb wireless" thing?

well if you can wait until Leopard release in october then wait you would save the price of leopard cd and ilife...about the mouse part,if you REALLY need the 2 usb ports get a bluetooth mouse,if not go for the usb wireless mouse which saves your battery life and has better signal...the both usb ports work exact the same way..=\

If all you're connecting would be a wireless mouse and perhaps, a USB thumb drive, you'd probably be able to get along with a USB 2.0 hub with 4 ports. Add to that a printer and you'll be set. I'd really be surprised if one USB port on the MacBook differs from the other in anything but location.

I'm not too concerned about waiting just to have leopard installed.

I'll probably just use a usb port for the odd device connection like a digi camera
or audio interface.

since no one seems to have answered your initial question...

a bluetooth mouse will use your MB's built-in bluetooth capacity. No attachments or anything are needed. A USB wireless mouse needs a small dongle that transmits the wireless signal to operate. The dongle plugs into a USB port on your MB (or USB hub). It is wireless in the sense that there is no wire coming from the mouse, but it needs an external piece to work. USB mice are really cheap, and if you don't mind the small dongle, they work well.

Thanks Crzy. Yes, I know what you're saying...complete answers and all that stuff.....

So, I've been doin a whole bunch of looking into this matter of the mouses and I think I'm pretty much gonna be going with this here logitech V270 BT that everyone seems to enjoy.
I'm talking nuts because I'm on dialup and it takes a looooooooong time anytime I want to research something

you are all talking about a USB on the right hand side of the MacBook... ive just bought the Black Pricey MacBook (not a Pro though) and it doesnt have one... is this a feature just with the pros or did they just forget to put it in mine?
