Dumb question - burning a DVD

I copied a disk image of a friend's DVD to my Powerbook hard disk some time ago. I was hoping to just burn the image (ie, a folder called "VIDEO_TS" which contains several files eg, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_0.IFO) to a new DVD-R to make a playable disk.

When I insert the disk, i-DVD automatically launches. The blank dvd doesn't appear on my desktop or in the Finder. How can I achieve this seemingly simple objective?

I think you can change what happens when you insert a blank disk in System Preferences.

Note that I'm not sure iDVD will not burn a VIDEO_TS folder though. You need something different. I'm sure someone who does this sort of thing will be along with a suggestion soon...

Another thing is that when I insert a blank DVD-RW, the Powerbook automatically ejects it again. This is even though the superdrive (according to my systems profile) is supposed to be able to write DVD -R and -RW.

Anyone know why this is the case?

The ejection of a DVD-RW probably also has to do with the fact that iDVD is set to open when a DVD is inserted. That is, iDVD can't handle DVD-RWs, so it can't use them, and thus spits them out. I usually set my blank discs to either open Toast, or do nothing.

Preferences > CDs & DVDs - easiest if you have different things you want to do with the different media, to set it to "ask what to do".

you need to burn the whole disk image (and it needs to be in proper DVD format, which i think also includes an empty folder called AUDIO_TS and some other bumpf ), not just the VIDEO_TS folder. you could use a freeware app like DVDImager to generate one from the VIDEO_TS if you're not sure about the image format.

[edit] oh, and if by chance it was a copy-protected DVD then just making a disk image won't have got rid of the protection on it, which will prevent you from making a playable disk
