AFAIK, you can't.

You could do it with a panther CD if you didn't want to use tiger..

and in your siggy, you have a 17" PB, why are you formatting a 12"-er? (just curious)

It's a pretty good idea to own a copy of your primary OS disk.

If you purchased a pre-Tiger product, you may just have to break down and buy Tiger.

You could check with Apple to see if your machine is elligable for the
Tiger upgrade CD.
