Can I restore an iPhone from the backup of an iPad?

And say the iPad has a couple movies on it that I don‘t want to put on the phone, how do I keep them from automatically going on the phone if I set it up to restore from the backup?

Trying to set up my grandson’s new phone and I’m torn between setting it up with his own Apple ID and having him separate from his mom’s (but his iPad would never sync because it’s on her Apple ID), and setting it up as another device on hers. If we make him one and then he signs into it on his iPad, he’ll lose everything bought from her ID.

Just trying to figure out the best option.

You can have a different Apple ID for the App Store. For example, in my family we all use the same Apple ID for the App Store but all of us have separate Apple IDs for iCloud and all that stuff.

The best option would be to create a separate Apple ID for him. He'll need it sooner or later anyway.

Well yall probably have family sharing set up - perhaps I should do that for them. I’ve been planning on it, but just haven’t taken the time to do it.
