I'm selling my MBP locally, and I'm trying to sell as clean a machine as possible. I booted into Recovery Mode, and erased the SSD via Disk Utility, then went to reinstall Yosemite. However, I am forced to enter an active Apple ID in order to download the OS.

During Setup of the OS itself (after the installation and reboot), I skipped the step where you enter your Apple ID.

My question is, will the next user of the machine be forced to use my Apple ID to install new software or OS updates? If so, should I tell the user to reinstall OS X again and enter their data?

Thanks in advance.

Far from here
Hi,

Short answer : the OS you just installed is not tied to your AppleID.

So : no, and no.

You did it the right way.

However, you should recommend to the buyer to "buy" Yosemite with his own ID and create a USB installer, for the time Yosemite will no longer be available on the App Store. This is the problem with Mavericks since Yosemite was released.

Excellent. Thank you very much.
