Dumb Question, would you buy a CPU on eBay sold as broken?

Saw a x5690 for 36 bucks. Says won't boot.

im tempted to frame my orginal mac pro cpu and stick it on the wall, did think about driling a hole in it to make a neckless but cant bring myself to do it to a working cpu.

36 sounds steep tho get a Pentium 4 for a bling chain there hot

I wouldn't buy one personally, but people do buy them for samples for microscopy of various types, or for CPU collections, or for other artwork. I once had a pile of 30 or so motherboards I was going to use for artwork but ended up discarding them. I scavenged mine, but other people with less time might buy in bulk.

Aye i suppose if you wanted to de-lid a CPU, you'd buy a couple of the same make to practice on, and if you were in a hurry or doing it as part of your job, prices wouldn't really matter (within reason).

What would be the motivation for doing so? To take a risk it may actually be functional? To have one to place on the shelf? To practice de-lidding?

Might be cheaper to buy broken systems at thrift store or Salvation Army.
