U.K
Hi guys. I’m looking for suggestions about which duplicate file finder is best. Ideally I’m after either free or one off purchase apps. I’m not interested in anything that requires a subscription.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Cheers

I don't use one, so don't have a recommendation. But, I've seen this question here many times. You're likely to find more info in a search than you'll get in new/repeat responses in a new thread. :)

Here's one that I have used on occasion and that does a solid job, free too https://dupeguru.voltaicideas.net

Gemini from macpaw is another one that I have tried many times.. fancy interface and does a good job too. Has a 'similar' files option and other bells and whistles like medals for clean up and such. All part of the macpaw design system. No hate.

I would recommend Gemini also. Does cost $$ though. If you buy into setapp subscriptions, made by the macpaw team, you'll get Gemini in the package. Try using free ones first. The tech behind each duplicate file finder application is of course different and I'm not one to definitive say one is the master of them all.

Thanks for your input. I'll check it out. I'm trying to avoid subscriptions though. Would much prefer a one off purchase.

Q 2. Is dupeGuru free?

A: I am sorry to say, dupeGuru is not 100% free. After erasing 10 copy files, you have to donate $9.99 to continue your work.

Oh man, well, I duplicated a DMG file to get 16 of the latest Permute.dmg and scanned for duplicates and I could erase more than 10 copies of the dmg. In fact all duplicate 16 dmg files could be deleted.

I did read a comment on MacUpdate stating the same you mention. There is no Purchase Menu or otherwise inside the dupeGuru application. But if you find that it indeed does cost money then I would stay clear of that.

Also, while I just recently tried Setapp as a subscriber I am not one any longer. I don't want to subscribe to software. Despite having a huge amount of programs available to you. I have most of the software I need bought elsewhere.

In addition, there is no mention of the words "price" "purchase" "limit" in the FAQ within the app.
