Duplicate/Multiple Copies Of Applications In Mobile Applications Folder

As the title suggests, I have duplicate/multiple copies of applications in my Mobile Applications folder.
My initial assumption is that is has something to do with application updates not overwriting the older versions.
I have no idea why it's creating multiple copies for some & not others.
I don't want to delete any of the duplicates until I have more information.

I also found a thread where this issue is mentioned, so it's happening to at least one other person.

Does anyone else know anything about this?
Are there any other people experiencing this issue? You should check & see if you are.

I have had this happen once. I just found the app in iTunes and did "show in finder", and then deleted the one that iTunes was not using anymore.

The one app that this happened with is one that I downloaded with iTunes first, all the others I downloaded on the phone itself.

As I said, I had thought about doing that myself. I figured it wouldn't do any harm deleting the unused duplicates
but I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this & knew anything else.

I can't remember how I'd downloaded the ones I did but I also think it has something to do with updating from the store & the phone.

Well, since no one else apparently finds this even the least bit interesting...

I went ahead & deleted the duplicate copies, removed the REAL copies from iTunes (while choosing to keep the files), renamed them (removing the numbers from the file name), & re-added them to iTunes. Everything is working fine & the way it was before I did anything.

I have an interesting update. A number of the applications I have released updates, so I was able to conduct a test.

I tried downloading a few of the updates from the phone & a few from my computer.

ALL of the application updates created duplicate copies. It didn't matter if I downloaded them from the phone or the store.....

Very strange........

Has no one else REALLY noticed this?

I have. Several people in the Apple online help forums think that these files cause the Apple Logo of Death. I deleted all of mine and am going to redownload all my apps. I'm desperate to find a fix.
