You should also consider a getting an air filter to clean the room air. (If the 7,1 is inhaling all that crap, so are you.)

I have one of these:

and it's quiet, inexpensive, gets great reviews, and looks like a kick-ass subwoofer.

I have a different one but in another room than the 7.1
Was waiting to see how bad dust would be after several months. Looks bad.
Just put in an order for your recommended Coway. Arrives June 18.
Also put in an order for a Rumba type floor machine.
I'm hoping the Coway is quite. If may need to be turned on only during the night when editing isn't taking place.

Remember when the Apple Blogaratti / Podcastaratti were parroting the company line that the airflow in the machine was so well designed, that dust would be incapable of accumulating, and therefore filters weren't needed.

Fun times.

Eww, that front grille looks nasty.

The rest, well depends on how long the machine is running and the environment its in. I wonder if air filters could help? Is there space to install something like custom cut mats inside the machine and if so would it impact the thermals all too much.

May I ask you OkiRun when did you get your Mac Pro?
How many months did it take to accumulate that amount of dust?

It arrived January 26 2020 and went into service that day. It runs 24/7 with no sleep.
Our office has a maine coon that comes and goes and the office is a madhouse of editors, directors, actors, clients, producers, and groupies. Lots of people have been murdered in our office =~~=
If you've ever had last minute issues with locations, you know exactly what I:m talking about....
I should have added more air purifiers but I was worried about the already high level of ambient noise.

@OkiRun was your unit installed directly on the floor? Mine has been sitting up on desk at the office and now perched on a server rack while working from home and I'm not seeing build up on the front grille like you are. I was contemplating installing on the floor when I return to the office but may reconsider.

Where do you keep it? I've had my cMP on a carpeted floor for a year and a half and only just matches that dust accumulation.

It has alway been stationed on a wooden floor; no wheels.

I blame Musashi ~

Maybe less so if the system is on the floor, and s/he has a robust set of nose hairs to filter out most particles as well as stays hydrated enough to keep the mucous floweth. Just sayin' ;)

I cleaned out my 7,1 at the end of April when I opened it up to install a second Radeon Pro Vega II MPX module. I keep mine on my desk, as every computer I ever kept on the floor got full of crap. There was a very minimal amount of dust inside. If you want no dust, you've got to keep it off of the floor!

If you really want to keep dust down, do what I do, and place it outside the window. Lower operating temps, and even liquid cooling on some days. Some wasps seemed to have moved in as well, so it's pretty much stuck out there for good.

The wasps also ruined the low-decibel situation as well, no doubt.
