Hello.

My 2019 iMac was brought in for the third time this morning. The issue: Smudges on the corners of the screen. Apple has replaced the display twice already and now it is happening again, but this time it is out of warranty.

They replaced the entire LCD screen 2x, which may be true, or it was just cleaned and put back together? I am not sure. Either way it feels like Apple has some sort of problem, because this time they said it was due to the environment that the computer is in, and it's out of warrantee, therefore it cannot be repaired without a $600 donation to Apple provided by me. -Even then they said they wouldn't recommend it, because it will probably happen again.

It sure seems like they knew there was a problem, they provided short term solutions, and just waited until my warrantee expired.

Or do iMacs need to live in a sealed environment with HEPA filters running constantly? It's in a second floor room with plants and other electronics, etc. I open the windows from time to time, and have lit candles in the room on occasion, but it seems odd that that would cause a reoccurring issue.

Perplexed/annoyed,

-K

P.S.

They have agreed to look at the computer again, and replace the LCD "if it looks like there is something wrong with the parts, etc". They have already confirmed the issue persists. I would say that is confirmation that something is wrong.

Im not really looking forward to taking time out to lug the thing around again. Has anyone else had these issues?

I do. This is the lower right corner.
Second replaced display. Some of it looks like greasy finger prints, some looks like residue left from peeling off a layer of protective plastic from a mirror.

Very tiny dust particles get under the plys of the LCD and onto the internal side of the glass - usually in the lower left and right corners of the display. I have opened up and cleaned a 2019 27" iMac LCD myself to remove the dust. It is a design flaw with the 2014-2020 models in my opinion.

Interesting. They said this is extremely rare, and that they'd never seen anything like it in the 13 years they've worked with Macs. First time it happened I was told they switched to a new supplier for the display, second time, no explanation, they were super busy, just placed the computer in front of me and walked off. Now it's dust.

Name me any company you've ever reported a fault to and they've said yeah mate we get loads of those every day. Absolute standard damage-limitation reply, in every big company you can name, is to tell the customer that anything and everything is "a very rare" fault that they've "never heard of before". Some things might be, but most obviously are not. Either way, that will be the de-facto standard reply, always. Flexgate and keyboard-gate were also "very rare" that they've "never heard of before", until they were sued.
