Read some threads on this, but not sure what the latest thinking is on this issue. I have some dust under my screen on my 3GS and I heard that Apple will warranty these phones.

However, I'm wondering if they will repair it on the spot, or just swap out the phone.

The reason I ask is mine is jailbroken and I don't want a new phone...but I do want the dust gone. :D

Thanks!

In my experience they just go into the back with your phone, remove the screen, clean it, and bring it back out to you.

When i lived in the UK, an Apple store replaced it straightaway for me...new phone.

If you're in the US, I'm not sure how it works

Took mine to my local Apple Store a few weeks ago because of dust issues. They took a look at it and decided to replace the whole display on the spot, free of charge. It took maybe 15 minutes. Mine is a 3GS so it's still under warranty of course.

Good luck!

Awesome! I have the same problem, 3 specs of dust. How much dust did you have? Think 3 specs is enough?

Thats good to know, thanks. Does anyone know if AT&T stores will do the same? I bought my iPhone at a AT&T store because its 10 minutes from my house. The closest Apple store is 45 minutes.

This has happened to me in the past. So I went to the apple store and told then the problem, they saw it and traded my phone for a refurbished iPhone. This happened a second time because it was worse and they jus swapped out the screen on the spot and it was not defective at all.

I've had this done multiple times. No matter what Apple does more dust gets behind the glass of my 3G. They just replace the glass and clean the display.

I've had a genius tell me that if I bring it in again they'll more than likely swap me out for a refurb.

Don't stick a bottle of airduster into the headphone jack. Really effective way of pushing all of the lint into your screen.

I learned that the hard way.

It really depends in what the specific store does. When I went in on Wednesday the genius looked at it and said, "we'll replace the dispay and glass. Shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes." They did and it only took 5-10min. I have Applecare on a 3G.

I had my 3G for a year and dust never got under the screen. I've had my 3GS for 8 months and dust keeps getting under there. I think I'll take it in and see what happens.
