I use Sonic Scenarist and Mediachance's DVD Lab Pro for a lot of my DVD Authoring I do (on PC). Macrumors god-like member "mudbug" has firmly convinced me to try the "other side"..lol I plan on getting the new iBook when it comes out (so I can dual-boot both OS'es), but I want to plan my apps according when I transition. so here's the question:

Anyone here do any hard-core dvd authoring for Mac's (I also mean encoding audio tracks to AC-3, video editing, etc)...and what do you recommend?

This being my fist post here, and in unfamiliar territory, I hope I don't sound like a noob!

First off video editing and DVD authoring are 2 seperate functions. Video editing can be handled by Final Cut (various versions for different levels). For simple DVDs you could use iDVD but it sounds like you need DVD Studio Pro.

You can get the whole lot bundled together as Final Cut Studio

I spend a lot of time using FCP, DVD Studio Pro and often iDVD.

With some imagination iDVD can be a very powerful tool, but it is technically limited to stereo soundtracks and no multi-angles, DVDSP offers a full range of DVD authoring and will allow the encoding of AC3 surround files as well as full multi-angle video and multiple audio tracks.

Robbie's suggestion of FCP Studio is an excellent one, but you might find the iBook a tad underpowered for some of the functions you are talking about.

Oops

Sorry about posting twice...I didn't see the first thread post after 5 minutes, so I thought maybe I would post it in another thread.

Very nice suggestions, and I have a ton of other questions, but thankfully "mudbug" is helping me on this.
I realize that video editing and authoring are separate...I should have asked about editing as well as authoring...I just have had too much coffee and I'm trying to kick this PC off my workbench while typing...:)
As for the iBook..you're right. It's underpowered.

No I'm not paid hourly...lol...I just do contracts.

Thank you...I'll have more ?'s I'm sure.
