dvd burning and media converting

i am simply trying to take mpg files i have on my computer, and burn them to a dvd, now as far as i know i must convert these to mpeg_2 files, and i cant get past here. i have tried using ffmpegx, and mpeg2 works(demo mind you) . with the ffmpegx i had chosen to take the file and convert it to mpeg_2 , but it changed it to an "mpv" file and the audio was converted to "mp3" obviously these wont work in a dvd player. I even tried doing it on my pc but when converting to mpeg_2 it completely deleted the audio track. It seems to me there must be a simpler way...or 1 program instead of downloading one that tells you that you need 3 more.

can someone walk me through the easiest way to burn these to dvd's or direct me to a program that will convert any type of video file to one compatible with a dvd.


im at the point where i don't even care about the video quality.

in QuickTime Pro, export to "DV Stream."

in iDVD, drag that new .dv in, then burn your DVD.

it should work.

You must use those files and make them into a DVD image to be able to burn then. Or thats at least how i do it.

A few options.
I use FFMPEG but I registered mine. Its really easy to take a folder full of MPEG and convert to DVD. If you do this often, I suggest the payment, as FFMEPG i worth it. That said, without paying or stealing, FFMEPG won;t do it in demo mode.

QTPro will export to DV which means LOTS of space and time, and then more time converting iDVD back, and IME a loss of quality.

You could go the SVCD route. It all depends on how long the files are. SVCD often play on DVD players. Use MPEG2 files but do not need the vob structure stuff of a DVD.

For simplicity's sake I say try FFMPEG.
