dvd drive won't eject or close when vmware fusion is runnning!

Brand New Mac Pro 8 core 2.8

VMWARE FUSION with windows XP

The superdrive won't eject or close, even while vmware fusion is minimised. I have to shut down windows and quit vmware fusion for the drive to work. Very irritating when trying to work in windows apps.

Any ideas?

Thats because VMWare is set to take over your physical CD/DVD drive when it boots up. To stop that from happening, go into your VM settings for Windows XP -> CD/DVD Options and then uncheck the "Connected" option and there you go. If you do want XP to read your CD's or DVD's just select the icon from the bottom of the VM screen and choose "Connect CD/DVD".

Thanks but of course I do want windows XP to be able to read my CDs and of course I want to be able to eject and close the drive. Isn't this possible?

Yes but now the default option is to take over your DVD drive whenever fusion is running and we don't want that now do we So, if you follow my instructions, the default action would be that CD/DVD's will mount in OSX but if you want them to show up in XP then you click the little CD button at the bottom right of the VM window and choose "Connect" and hey presto, now windows has control of your DVD drive.

Ah thanks, didn't realise about the cd button - that helps a bit, however I don't have a CD button as I work in full-screen mode. Isn't there an easier option for those who don't work inside a window? I'm thinking of workflow here.

Well if you work in full screen mode, then just put your mouse cursor up to the top until you get the bar then Virtual Machine -> CD/DVD -> Connect.
