Here's a complicated question for anyone who knows video editing.

I need to get video from a DVD burned on a stand alone DVD recorder into FinalCutExpress, add chapter titles and titles, and burn a DVD with IDVD. The trick is getting a finished DVD that doesn't have banding or artifacting, which is exactly what I'm dealing with now, going from
Original DVD to
Cinematize (convert to MPEG2) to
DiVA (convert m2v to .mov - to eliminate audio synch problems) to
Final Cut (export as FCmovie) to
IDVD

I can't find a way to eliminate any of these steps, and I was informed today that it's impossible to go from DVD to mpeg2 and back to DVD without motion banding and artifacting.

Anyone have any good ideas?

thanks

Step 1. If the video is encypted, use DVDbackup to decrypt the VOB files to your HD.

Step 2. Download and install Forty-Two DVD-VX Plus.

Step 3. Drag VOB files to Forty-Two, and export as AVI.

Step 4. Edit AVI in FCE, output for iDVD

Step 5. Burn DVD

I have never done this before, but in thoery it should work pretty well.

any chance of a screen grab of the problem?
If you have a dv camera with video in, you might be better to grab the DVD into final cut as video via the dv camera then export as a final cut movie & Then burn it in idvd or toast.
