DVD menus?

Hello all,

I'm finally taking the plunge and going all digital.

I've used Handbrake in the past and am happy with the results, but one thing that's bothering me is that when I rip a movie the only thing that gets ripped is the movie itself.

Is there any way to make the movie's DVD menu and all the extras show up on the Apple TV?

In other words, is there any way to make it where when I click on the movie on the Apple TV, the DVD menu shows just like it would if I was watching the movie on the DVD player?

I know it's possible to make a file like that since when I bought Captain America from iTunes, a menu shows up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No. If you buy iTunes Extra, then you will get those menus you're talking about in iTunes and on the first ATV. But you can't rip your DVDs and make them look like that. Also, with the second and third generation ATV (the black ones), iTunes Extra doesn't work.

This is one of the biggest travesties on the aTV2/3. How could they not have iTunes Extra working on the aTV2/3 yet? It boggles my mind.

Sure, maybe no one is really calling for iTunes extra on the new aTV's, but there's some good uses for this. For instance, the aTV would be the perfect device to playback excercise/aerobics videos. A lot of these workout DVDs have a series of 10-30 minute programs that target different areas. From the DVD menu, you choose the individual workouts that you want to do and they'll play them back in order. This would be a great use for the aTV, but for the fact that iTunes extra doesn't work.


Either that, or Apple should allow for Playlists for TV/Movies. This would work, but it wouldn't look as slick as iTunes Extra.

EDIT - apparently you can do playlists for TV Shows on the aTV. You have to change the setting in the Audio/Video tab to show "all playlists". Otherwise you only get Music Playlists. OK, so now I have a workaround.
