I guess this is some kind of copyright thing, so how do I circumvent it?

Do I need to download some third-party screenshot thing or just get a different program to play DVDs?

Any recs?

Edit: Oh, another question. What's the best way to play media files encoded with various codecs?

Hmmm, you are correct my friend. However, I did successfully take a screen shot with VLC. Actually, I think its the best solution to your second question as well-plays virtually anything! Of course, coming from me, its free. Definitely a must have app for any OS X user.

Edit: Someone beat me to it.

Ive herd somewhere that the reason you cant take a screenshot of some dvd players is because of video overlay, where the video card renders the video not the cpu. Somthing like that.

Same topic was just covered a few days ago. There is a terminal command you can use to capture screenshots of DVD-Player under OS X.
