Depends what you want to do and what experience you're going for.
Frontrow: If you want the simple living room set top box experience.
DVD Player: If you want the "You're playing a DVD movie in your computer" experience.
Frontrow: If you want the simple living room set top box experience.

As far as playback, they are the exact same thing. Front Row uses DVD player for playing DVD's. It's only a matter of convenience to you on which to use.
