DVD-R/DVD+R What's the difference?

Search function is bringing up too many posts that don't answer this simple question.
Just bought a spindle of DVD+Rs by mistake. My drive burns this format ok but what i want to know is: what is the difference between the two formats, is one 'better' than the other and is formatting video onto a DVD+R likely to compromise compatibility with DVD players?

Wikipedia has a brief outline of both DVD-R and the newer DVD+R. Does this help?

FWIW, DVD-R is more universally accepted, in particular by older DVD players.

Didn't realise Philips developed the +R format. That bodes well for compatibility in my case as the system the discs are for is a synced set of Philips DVDPro-180.

No worries. Most modern DVD players are compatible with both, thankfully.
