Can anyone bring some light on this topic. I heard -R was more reliable but today at Best Buy the clerk said +R:confused:

Thanks.

Although I'm no expert, I would assume that it would be the brand of the DVD±R that matters more than if it is + or -. I personally use - R 'cause they are usually cheaper.

The guy at London Drugs told me -R are a little more compatable (support on more devices). I thought one of them can be written after-the-fact (adding more files later), not sure about that one.

Its all superficial though, because most readers/burners handle both just fine.

This afternoon I was at a Sony Store to buy some blank DVDs.

And funnily enough, I was asking the same question to one of the sales assistant there. He answered with "DVD-Rs are more openly compatible to a wider range of player devices. Capacity wise, they have no differences." I believed him, so I grab that one instead of the +R variant.

Afterwards, it worked fine with my MacBook.

By the way, both DVD-R and DVD+R have identical price tags at the Sony Store.

I use both and have no preference.

In general your odds of talking to anyone in the computer department at Best Buy who knows what they are talking about are probably 1 in 20. I should know, I've worked in a couple of them (I was the 1 in 20 :) ).
