DVD-R or DVD+R

I have a Macbook Pro Core 2. I have recently been trying to use some Sony DVD+R disks and getting "Burning the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed. Error Code 0x80020022.

I notice that in About this Mac it says something about -R. Could it be that I can't use +R? I thought all the drives these days could use either.

The SuperDrive can write DVD-R and DVD+R without problems. Maybe try another brand of DVD?

i used DVD+R Verbatim discs and they were unreadable by the superdrive.

i got some of these. (yellow/orange top right?)
I have a mbp... not sure how to tell if its an santa rosa.. how do i tell? Its new. only got September.

Anyways, they work fine on this.. and play ok in my 360..

whats the difference with the + and - ??

You ahve the Santa Rosa since you have the 2.4GHz model with the 8600... the older, non-SR ones had x1600s.

Anyway, DVD+Rs are more 'true' DVDs than DVD-Rs... DVD-Rs are essentially high capacity CDs, and the technologies used in burning CDs was never really designed to scale to the capacities of DVDs. So DVD+Rs are better in terms of reliability, and error checking at high speed burns. At least that is how I understand it.
