dvd region lock question

What I'm not clear about is this:

can you play 100 region one discs, then switch to region two and repeat the whole thing up until you changed region the fifth time

or

after five played discs of whatever region you are stuck?

That's the answer. You can only change the region 5 times. So the region you are in now is the first time, that means you can only change the region 4 more times.

However the drive manufacturer have the option to reset the region change counter 5 times too, that means... 5 * 5 = 25. Don't count on it though.
