DVD rip: Splitting Chapters into separate files?

I have a DVD with several music videos from an artist and I'd like to split each music video into a single file so that I can organize them in iTunes as individual videos.

I've looked around HandBrake for a solution but I can't seem to find it. It will export a DVD with chapters attached but it won't split them into single files.

Any suggestions?

I'm performing the rip on Handbrake now with AppleTV specs and Chapter Markers.

Once it's done, I'll try to open in Quicktime. If the chapters translate into QT, I will be able to trim each one to the selected chapter and then save in .MOV format.

This should work, but there has to be a better way

Just change the chapter setting at the top to only encode the chapter you want:

Awesome, I added each individual chapter to the queue with a separate file name for each and now I can just walk away and let it do its thing.

This is all well and good but you'd think there would be a way to automatically add each chapter to the queue with an incremented number in the title. Or maybe there is and I'm missing it? Otherwise it takes a bunch of useless fiddling around.

Are you talking about ripping each chapter consecutively? You can que up a list of items for Handbrake to encode. Other than that, I'm not sure what you mean... you can rip one title, several titles, or all titles, and you can create a list of items for Handbrake to encode while you're away from the PC.

Seems to do what it needs to.

Manually adding chapters to the queue should not be necessary unless you want to customize the options for each one. Otherwise it's a bunch of useless fiddling around, try it with some music DVDs with lots and lots of chapters/titles and see how much fun it is.

Just use HandBrakeCLI - http://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/CLIGuide - to rip single chapter to single file. Then write a simple script to loop through it and do it for every chapter.

Hello folks,

I am trying to,

1. Extract every chapter in a DVD as VOB file (there are 50 of them) so that I could make XviD out of it to play on my stand alone DVD player.
2. Also convert each chapter to individual file for watching on an iPod using Handbrake.

The recommendation offered by FreeState didn't help me. I tried the way he recommended but I ended up with a single file. I am not a geek and honestly CLI is not my cup of tea. So didn't try that option.

Any suggestions?

I agree, but there are times, such as for a music DVD like you mentioned, if someone wants individual music videos for each song performance, you will have to either rip all the chapters with a program like DVD Shrink and queue them up, or do it directly in Handbrake. It's not fun, but that's the work involved in ripping individual segments vs. an entire feature.
