Hey there -- I recently got a B&W G3 from a guy here as part of a trade... but there are some issues it seems.

The DVD-ROM drive stays open all the time and when I close it it pops right back open. When I shut the computer off, it closes itself, but then will open back up when the computer turns on.

I don't really know if this is some sort of software issue that can be easily resolved or what. Hopefully we can get this working.

It seems to me that somehow Apple's auto-open for CD-ROMS isnt working right.

I have an original iMac style keyboard attached with no eject key on it.

At what point during startup does it reopen? Like, right when you power the machine on? If that's the case, it's either firmware (unlikely) or a bad drive. If it reopens later in startup-- btw, which system are you running, 9 or X?-- it could be a software issue. Of course, check the connections etc...

It opens immediately upon bootup. The second the chime starts, door opens. But the odd thing is that it still randomly closes itself.

Its too bad that htis is happening, because it would be nice to actually install some software. Oh well. Better be talking to the guy who sold me this.
