dvd-rw vs dvd+rw

hi, i have the superdrive with the dual 2.3ghz powermac and i want to buy one DVD+-rw just to burn imovie projoects and then to see how it looks on my tv and just to reuse the one DVD-+rw.

i have never used a dvd+/-rw before and was wondering which one i should get and if anyone can recommend me a brand.

Get DVD-R/-RW. Verbatim if you can find them for good price.
They more compatible with most players, make less coasters.

Couple things..

1) Older DVD players are DVD-R(W) (only) compatibile. Newer ones will do DVD+R(W) as well. Unless you're 100% sure whatever you play it on will be new, you're much safer going with DVD-R(W).

2) There's no such things as DVD+-RW. It's either + or -

Good luck! With media, you get what you pay for, cheap crap will fail more often.

I have this drive and im happy with it... you can get the same one for 10$ cheaper but it doesnt support dual layer... my only complaint is that its a little loud.


Edit... oh fyi this is in my PC Ill check and see if it works in my mac when I get home from work

The OP isn't asking for a drive recommendation, he's asking for media recomendations.

k, thanks and btw i dont need a burner cause i have the superdrive or whatever its called that came with the powermac dp 2.3ghz

Just another question, if i keep reusing the same dvd-rw over and over again by erasing data then burning will that wreck the laser or burner? may be a stupid question but im a newbie when it comes to anything hardware or software related to comps i just know how to use them.

Also i had this failed burnt DVD+r that i didnt know failed until i popped it in the burner and it tried reading for about 5 minutes and then stopped and then i ejected. How bad is that for the burner? i just dont want to wreck the burner. Thanks again guys for the info.

Erasing and reburning a DVD-RW over and over is much worse for the DVD then it is for the burner. The burner is designed to read/write thousands and thousands of cds/dvd. As for reading flubbed burns, well I wouldn't suggest continuing to put the ame bad burn in over and over and over, but since you cannot possibly know when there's a problem CD/DVD, you shouldn't worry about it harming your burner. It's not harming the burner.

Delicate electronics and mechanics degrade over time. Eventually yiour SuperDrive will die. Wll it be within your warranty, or will it be 5 years down the road? Who knows. Replacements are cheap. I wouldn't worry about the burner anymore.

Some of my dvd players won't read -R, they only read +R. Same with all my friends, they can only use +R's.

From newegg (sorry, no time to product search specifically) I purchased a cakebox (100pk) of the RiData/RiTek (same, different naming but same code) discs when they were on sale. I got 8x +R and they are great, zero coasters to date (knocks lightly over superdrive on PB)

The RiTek/RiData discs have some of the best reviews I have seen online for their little code thing, and as I stated zero coasters about 20 discs deep, so they seem pretty good (4 friends all ordered same cakebox, zero coasters for them too but not sure how many they have burned). They can be had cheaply from newegg if you watch for deals. I had the cakebox total 37.-- after shipping with a $12 rebate (which I forget to send in ), but still a great deal at 37 so I don't really care.
