DVD Shrink better in Boot Camp or Parallels

I have MacBook Pro coming in just a few days.

I would like to install Parallels, but I'm wondering if Boot Camp would be a better option.

The only applications I need to run in Windows are DVD Shrink, Firefox, and possibly IE 7.

Ultimately, will I get decent performance running DVD shrink by simply using Parallels? DVD Shrink runs by default in a "low priority" mode.

I know that Firefox and IE 7 should run just fine in Parallels, so I'm basing my decision on a more resource intensive program, DVD Shrink.

Please share any experiences of programs running in Parallels at good speed, or more importantly programs that had noticable lag running in Parallels.

I haven't used DVD Shrink, but I have used CloneDVD in parallels and it ran no problem at all, therefore I assume DVDShrink will be the same.

Parallels or VM Fusion should be able to more than cope with what you want it to do.

Parallels uses one core your processor at Full speed. It is not emulated therefore your speed is native (albeit one core in parallels)




However I switched to mac solutions.

MacTheRipper & Toast Titanium 8 in unison do the job a treat.

If your just wanting to recode Handbrake is a fantastic app to rip your dvd and re-compress it.

I think I'm going to go ahead and try out Parallels. I may end up going to Bootcamp if the performance is not what I'm hoping, but I prefer to stay with Parallels to easily use Windows to check web design and not have to reboot the machine.

I'm thinking I will use MactheRipper to rip/decrypt the DVD. Afterwards, should I use the "shared folder" feature in parallels to access the video files?

You should just be able to drag and drop what you ripped into Windows in Parallels to use with it.

I've used DVD Shrink and Nero Recode 2 before (albeit, not under Parallels), and I like to use Toast Titanium 8 on the Mac. While you can't get as precise as you can with the former apps, I find that it gets the job done quite well. Give it a shot, at the very least, it'll be a lot easier.

I don't know if it's just me, but the last three revisions (I think) of the Parallels betas have caused me to experience problems writing DVD-Rs and DVD+R DLs. Therefore, I suggest that you stick with the last non-beta.
