DVD to Audio ripping help

I'm trying to get AIFF or WAV audio from a DVD, (i'll settle for AAC) but most of the applications I've seen only rip dvds to video files. Using OSEx, I managed to rip the dvd to VOB (audio only ) files but can't seem to convert them to a quicktime format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is probably with a program called HandBrake, it rips DVD into serveral well supported formats (ACC, etc). Handbrake works really well in ripping DVD into iPod Video format so I can't see why it wouldn't do the same for DVD-A.

You can download HandBrake from VersionTracker.com it's about a 2MB download. Hope it works:D

You can also use an app called MPEG Streamclip which is very good at extracting just audio or video to a file, and it pretty much supports any audio codec expect for WMF or WMA (no big loss there) you can donload if from the Apple Mac OSX download part of the site ( http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ )

I have hand brake downloaded but I can only get it to rip to MP4 movie files

There are several ways to do what you want. Most DVD's use AC3 (Dolby Digital) format audio. After you rip the DVD, demux the streams using something like MTR. Google a program called MAC3Dec. That will convert AC3 files to AIFF (and possibly other formats, can't remember). I've used this method several times and it's worked very well.

I found the MAC3Dec. What's MTR? and do you mean ripping the entire DVD on to the hard drive first?
 
I've done this with Toast 7.

You can extract individual titles or chapters from the DVD and then use the export settings to export to AIFF, M4A, OGG, WAV, or FLAC.

It doesn't work for DVD-A. But, as far as I can tell, we're not talking about DVD-A, I'm pretty sure we're talking about audio tracks on regular video DVDs.

I'm having a similar issue when trying to get the music from a Jazz dvd that I bought. It is essentially a dvd with a static picture that has a couple of hours of Jazz tracks on it.
There are two sound tracks: one in dolby 5.1 and one in dolby 2.0. I ripped the full disk as instructed by means of MTR and now have the usual Audio_ts and Video_ts folders.

Now I'm stuck though. I downloaded MPEG Streamclip but I don't know which file(s) in the Video_TS folder to use! Also which export option do I use to convert in into something that iTunes will play? (pref. AAC)

I appreciate the help! Thanks!

Here's what's in the Video_tS folder. Maybe it'll help.

Load files in to StreamClip>Files>Demux to aiff or aac
 
I've done this before with Toast 7... I had a DVD concert soundtrack... each chapter was a different song... the Toast media browser parsed the VIDEO_TS folder and showed each chapter/song, which I dragged into the Toast video window and easily exported to M4A for iTunes.

Toast has an AC3 decoder built in... so handled all the conversions for me.

BTW - MacMall sells it for $39 after rebates... ends today I read on DealMac.

Go grab Jhymn.

It converts MP4s to MP3 or WAV if you'd like. I use it for my music projects.

EDIT: Oops, too late I guess. I still recommend Jhymn if someone's looking for an alternative.

I am now "demuxing" (whatever that means) to aiff. Looks like I'm going to be getting one long audio file though. Is there any application (preferably free) out there that'll allow me to split the file into individual aiff (or any other format) files? Thanks!

Not sure how you're planning to use/play the audio file, but there are several ways to shrink the file to MP3 or aac. Well the step with MPEG Streamclip worked. I now have a 11 hour long aiff music file. However I would actually like to split this into multiple music files, seeing as its actually a whole bunch of seperate songs and not just one long one! Is there any software out there that can do this for me?
