dvd video ripper. also dvd movies vs bluray dvd movies.

Hi! First point i want to ask: i've been using mactheripper but i noticed it reduces quality from backing up a full dvd. no data compression. has anyone noticed this too? do you know any other good dvd backup software?

also i started collecting dvd movies, but i downloaded some bluray 720p movies and i noticed how much better they are agaisnt the original dvd movies. those are the rips not really the bluray itself, so the bluray must be overwhelming. i mean i have a core 2 duo 27 imac and i can cleary see how bad the quality of a dvd movie is.

share your thoughts about it too. thank you
 
Blu Ray is amazing. 'Nuff said. I bought a PS3 and never looked back. Worth the money for better quality.
 
MacTheRipper makes a duplicate of the contents of a video DVD, so there is no compression or any other video conversion involved, just the removal of any copyright protection schemes it encounters.

Also DVDs store video in SD (Standard Definition) with either the PAL or NTSC broadcast system.
PAL video is stored with a maximum physical resolution of 720x576 pixel, which results in 414.720 pixel.
NTSC video is stored with a maximum physical resolution of 720x40 pixel, resulting in 345.600 pixel.

Blu Rays are used to store HD (High Definition) video in either 720ß or 1080i/p.
720p and 16:9 aspect ratio result in 1280x720=921.600 pixel, 1080p and 16:9 aspect ratio result in 1920x1080=2.073.600 pixel.

720p is 2.22222 sizes bigger than maximum PAL SD footage and 2.6 times bigger than the maximum NTSC SD footage.
1080p is 5 times bigger than PAL SD and 6 times bigger than NTSC SD video.
 
actually mactheripper has some problem. it doesnt play the video just like the dvd. i just tested it myself =/

ok im very disapointed. vlc player is horrible for viewing dvds. i guess the dvd player from mac is much better for viewing dvd movies

mtr doesnt play back videos, once you rip it, open it with the dvd player app

vlc has no issue at all for me viewing dvd movies

in both cases, are you navigating to the video_ts folder? in vlc you can also just go to file - open disc as well

yeah i did it. vlc just has worst quality. its noticeable

Have you tried Ripit? I create Apple DVD Player compatible files, and I don't think it compresses the DVD. They have a trial.
 
mac the ripper rips it compatible with both apple dvd player and vlc player. i was just saying that quality of vlc player is far worst from apple dvd player

i don't know what. i open the video ts directorie in dvd player and in vlc and i can see clearly a better quality in dvd player. i also have the latest version of the vlc media player
