Can I connect a DVD player to my iMac with the cords that comes with the player? If not, what should I get in order to hook them up? Also, if I bought a multi-region DVD player, would the computer still make me change regions? What about if I bought a DVD player for one region nd used my mac for another region, would it prompt me to change it then?

Might help if you specify what vintage iMac, and what DVD player.

In general, most recent Macs do not come with any kind of video in, so the vast majority of standalone DVD-players out there will not be able to connect to the iMac.

There are some DVD players that also act as DVD-ROM drives and have either USB or FireWire ports. If that's what you're after, what's wrong with the built in DVD drive?

It's an iMac G5 OS X, bought two months ago, new. It's a Technika DVD-105...My problem is that I have recently moved from one region to another, and find it unfair to have to re-buy all my DVDs, so I wanted to have one region on the DVD player and one on the Mac.

Use VLC to watch the DVDs on the iMac and you don't need to worry about region settings since VLC bypasses the region setting on the drive.

Apart from a few set-top DVD players that provide USB or firewire ports, in general there is no way to hook a DVD player up to a Mac. Although you potentially could hook your Mac up to your TV and then hook a DVD player up to a different set of inputs to the TV.

I would further like to add that you can output the video from your iMac to a TV so there is no need for a DVD player. Also there a lot of DVD players you can buy out there that will bypass the region coding aswell. Look on Amazon.
