Hello,I just picked up an older monitor for free to add on to my mid 2010 iMac 21.5" and was curious before i spend any money,Is there a difference between Mini Dvi & Mini Displayport? Will they both work with my iMac or is just mini displayport? Thank you!

You will need a Mini-Displayport-to-DVI adapter (generic ones will also work) if it is a DVI display.

Micro-DVI/Mini-DVI and Mini-DisplayPort are vastly different in terms of protocol, general support and connector interfaces.

Be advised that you will not be able to watch HDCP protected content on the DVI display. HDCP protected content can be watched on the iMac, or a connected display with a DisplayPort, Mini-Displayport, or HDMI input.
