Tried connecting my 2005 Mac Mini via dvi<>vga adapter and vga (monitor) cable.

TV screen says "not supported".

Tried both OS10.5.8 & 10.4.11

TV is about 4 years old. Has VGA & HDMI ports.

Perhaps the Apple dvi<>vga adapter does not have the correct signal or enough pins?

Do not have a dvi<>hdmi adapter - perhaps that would be the answer?

Should work, try hooking to a monitor first and dropping the screen resolution real low (800x600) then connecting to the TV.

DVI>HDMI would work better though, all digital.

It could be due to the digital to analog copyright protection built into the Mini. It effects all newer computers and digital video players with DVI/HDMI digital outputs (via hardware and/or software such as OS X). Then again your Mini and OS X version is old enough that you might be able to get it to work. Maybe it's an HDMI version conflict.

Many HDTVs are limited in what resolutions that can support. Try to use the native resolution if at all possible. (note: for a "720p" TV, the native resolution is usually 1366x768.)

Thanks everybody for the tips.

Mini can not detect the TV.

Found that the TV needs the display pref. set to 60Hz.

Once I do that with a computer monitor I can then hot swap the VGA cables and the picture is fine.

Problem though is that if the computer is shut down, on re-start there is no connection even if the TV is left untouched.

Do not really want to do the cable swap every time.

This older Mini has been retired from 'normal' use - had thought to simply use it for viewing videos.

Not sure if using HDMI would solve the swap issue but I guess since the adapters are so inexpensive I can order one to try.

DVI-HDMI is just a cable, under $10. I don't think a lot of TVs really have much in the way of analog-PC circuitry. The digital should sync better.
