This is ingenious. Apple has (successfully) spun the cutouts as a pro, rather than a con. The sensors still create a useless void on the display, and although it's an improvement over the notch, it's still a wart... However, by reserving a flexible amount of additional horizontal space for notifications and info (which would usually be needed anyway) they take attention off the void, and create a feature using software alone. Bravo.

Heh. It’s like you just finally understood the punchline.

We will see. They've also introduced a very clever multitasking tool in the process, which has practical applications. Instead of shuffling it away, they've decided to make it a practical component of something. I'm not sure what my current take is on it, but it seems rather banally obvious that I ought to spend some time with it before I form some opinions.

It's important Apple got ahead by giving it a pleasant marketing name. With the iPhone X, they were silent so everyone called it the notch, which was a mistake by Apple.

The UI designers did a good job of making lemonade and something more iconic than the notch.
