E-mail mysteriously disappears from in-box

I have a 3G 64gig iPad, with three Bellsouth.net (Yahoo! SMTP Server) email accounts on it.
Almost every time I check for email, I see email in my In-Box, and then mysteriously, it disappears! I haven't even touched the iPad when it happens. I have no idea why this is happening.
Is anyone familiar with this problem?
Anyone have a fix?

Wife/girlfriend/etc. has the password.

The minimal fix is change the password. There is a more permanent fix

Also, make sure you don't have a client set up to "delete when read".

This happens on my iPhone and iPad and I have gmail. I have no idea how to fix it either. I just get mail again and it appears.

my newest email sometimes disappears right after I check for new mail. I have to check again for it to appear. is a bug

Could it be exchange?? Not sure if you guys are having the same problem I did but when I set my email account up through exchange (to sync calendars wirelessly via google sync) it would only keep a certain amount of emails in my inbox. So I had to set the exchange up so that it would only sync calendars and contacts and then I set my gmail up through the regular iPad email selection.

This is happening to me all the now on my phone and iPad. Mail comes in and one instantly disappears , I need to get mail for it to come back. Really a pain. Anyone worked this out yet???

This has affected every iPhone/iPad I've owned. You just have to reload the mail by tapping the reload icon. Nobody has ever been able to explain the phenomenon to me...

Well, most of us using an iPad and/or iPhone get the same mail on multiple devices.

So, the first, obvious thing to check is to see if the mail is also missing from the other devices.

Also, make sure you don't have a more sophisticated mail program set up on a PC, Mac, etc. that is moving mail from the inbox to specific folders. The mail might briefly appear in the inbox before it is moved.

In some cases (this is true for me, as I use Rackspace Mail) it's possible to actually have the server move messages to folders, based on headers and/or content. With RackSpace Mail, that mail never appears in the inbox, but with other similar server-based solutions, it might.

Finally, not quite on-topic, but keep in mind that new mail that appears in folders doesn't get counted in the iPhone/iPad "badges". Annoys the heck out of me, since I arrange to pre-sort most of my mail on the server.

Of course, everything I've said about "sorting mail into folders" applies to anti-spam solutions, as well. In some cases, mail that is flagged as spam might briefly appear in your inbox. So, check your junk folder. And, of course, make sure you are set-up to put spam in a folder, rather than immediately delete it.

2nded, it's happened on my iPhones for quite some time now. Hitting the refresh button to get it to show again isn't that difficult

This happened to me and drove me crazy for a little while. Check the settings for the mail accounts and I bet they are set to IMAP instead of POP. I don't know if there is a way to change it, I deleted the account and recreated it as POP. This fixed my problem and I believe I noticed that IMAP is the default setting.

I know that when I check my email on the iMac that email will no longer appear on the iPad, based on my advance settings to "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Or in other words, if there was an email on my iPad it would stay there until I checked email on the iMac. Once I did that the iPad email would appear for a second and then vanish the next time I opened the iPad mail program (which sounds like what you're experiencing).

Are you reading your emails on your PC and then searching for them on the iPad (or iPhone)? It could very well be a software glitch, but it could also be a server setting. If you're on a Mac, go into your Mail preferences/Accounts/Advanced and check your settings.
