I use T-Mobile for my personal phone and travel to some pretty remote locations for work where my reception is spotty at best... however, my work phone is Verizon and stays pretty strong almost everywhere. I find myself using my work phone as a hot spot for my personal, which is quite annoying. Am I understanding that I could put my work sim in either the Xs or Xs Max and use both carriers while traveling around in the IS? No more poor coverage areas?

If you want to use eSIM and keep the slot free for a second sim I would wait till the system is active before buying the phone.

Wouldn't you be able to activate a phone on the primary SIM now, then simply get another SIM card later on from the other carrier and then add the current # to the eSIM after it's taken live?

You can, but I am skeptical that transitioning from a physical sim to an eSIM is going to be seamless. Usually lots of glitches with activation processes and new tech. I'd rather activate the new phone on eSIM from the get-go and then add the secondary physical sim as required. At least that's what I'm going to do. If you're comfortable going ahead now then go for it and let us know how it works when the eSIM system is activated.
