Hi guys,

I have a Mac Pro early 2008 which runs El Capitan and mainly Logic Pro x 10.3

The standard graphics card is rubbish, 256mb and not great resolution options for displays.

I need a cheap upgrade. I have a HD5450 1gb card spare, will this work?

With El Capitan, everything is easy.

Just turn off the MP, swap the VGA. Connect the VGA to your monitor.

It will work, the card will be recognized by El Capitan. You may lose the boot screen.

When you need the boot screen, just swap back the standard graphic card.

For reference only,

My Gigabyte HD 6670 2GB works with OS X Lion as well (only no boot screen). So I assume your HD 5450 1GB will work just find.

Remember to replace the old VGA on the exact slot, unless you have 2 monitors, 1 to the old VGA, 1 to the new one.
The first reboot after replacing VGA would seem infinity, but it will display Mac desktop eventually.
