Yep, that'd work. You might consider DDR3 PC3-10600 if you ever plan to upgrade the firmware and cpus to hex chips.

I have no intention of upgrading the CPU on this machine, but wonder if it's worth getting that in case I get a new machine and want to transfer the RAM over?

It's the same price - will it work ok in my Mac? What about future/new Mac Pros?

Are there any downsides to me getting it? (Do I have to upgrade firmware or anything to use it?)
