Early 2009 Ram upgrade ?

I want to upgrade the Ram in my early 2009 Mac Mini to 8G. I have read I need to update the firmware in order to upgrade to 8 gig of Ram. The Ram is simple to swap out, I've done that a few times on my old piece of junk windows computer that are gone thank God, I have never done this on a Mac. How do I update the firmware on my early 2009 Mini?

Oh, and you just can get 1333mhz for it. the 1066 is harder to find/more expensive in 4GB modules.

I am ASSuming that I download & install the firmware update the same as I would any other firmware update then install the new RAM?
