Early 2013 or 2015 MBP for Video Editing?

Hi All,

I like to dabble in FCPX using my GoPro footage. Nothing extraordinary, but never the less, I enjoy it.

I currently run a late 2009 iMac (2.66 Ghz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD).

As I travel a lot more now, humping a 27" iMac is not ideal.

I'm looking at a MBP. I've highlight a couple and would like to know what I should be looking out for and if they are capable of processing 1080p (some 2k, not really 4k) footage.

MBP 10,1 - early 2013, 15" i7 2.8 Ghz, 16GB RAM, 256 SSD.
MBP 12,1 - early 2015, 13" i5 2.7 Ghz, 8 GB RAM, 128 SSD.
MBP 8,2 - early 2011, 15" i5 2.0 Ghz, 16GB RAM, 500 HDD.

My preference would be the MBP 10,1 as it seems to have better specs, but the MBP12,1 is newer so in theory would outperform?

Any suggestions welcome!

I have an 11,3 (lates 2013 15-MBP) with 16GB and GT750M. Watching Activity monitor, FCPX makes active use of the GPU. Edits 4K just fine. It's configured with a 1TB SSD. Even then I have to manage disk space. Plan on getting fast external disks with the systems listed. Do any of these have dGPUs?

I'm unsure if its dGPU. But the 10,1 has a GeForce GT 650M.
I could always hook it up to a monitor if I want the "desktop" feel back (once I've sold my 27" late-2009 iMAC).

I'm not editing 45 minute shows for Netflix. But at the same time, I would like to play the odd game, stream Netflix, edit my photos from my DSLR and play with my GoPro footage (adding layers, effects, etc).

The GT650M is a discrete GPU. Many models have only an integrated GPU (iGPU) that's part of the CPU. Wimpy with regard to tasks such as editing video.

So, would this model be able to cope with my basic needs? Or would it struggle with most processing tasks?

I've got the same 11,3 as kohlson, and it is fine for the video editing I do, but you definitely want to have fast external drives to store at least all your media, if not media and libraries, which is what I do.

Cope and struggle are relatively subjective terms, but I believe you'll be fine, especially with HD.
