Did all early 2013 models with the 2.7ghz come with 16GB standard? I have the A1398 (EMC 2673) with the 2.7ghz 3740qm but only 8GB of ram and a 256GB ssd. For some reason I can only find these models with 16GB of ram.

Can anyone share the factory capacity of the battery on this laptop? Mine is around 7.4Ah when fully charged and I did notice there is one of the battery packs that isn't necessarily bulged, but has some slack in the black packing it uses.

No they all came with 4gb or 8gb as standard 16gb was only ever a BTO option on the 13 inch models still is in fact.

No idea on capacity but if the battery dodgy get it checked out before it destroys your computer.

I was wondering if the 2.7ghz, which is one of the BTO, had the 16GB standard in it.

As for the battery, I wanted a comparison of this same laptop with full charge capacity to determine if that battery bank is going bad. It appears to be, judging by the 95Wh battery being around 8400~ mAh, it's probably safe to say it's on it's way out. The battery discharges and recharges without any issues.

No they would have been separate upgrade options. However if you were bothering with the i7 you almost certainly wanted 16gb ram. The i7 made very little difference.

I guess for some reason I was thinking the 15" retina's had an i5 as standard. I know it's only 300mhz difference of the i7's, but there is still a difference depending on what application it was used for. If you were talking about an i5 vs i7, that's a world of difference.

This is a second hand MacBook that I traded, so apparently 16gb was too important to the former owner.

You never mentioned you were talking 15 inch, the i7 has been standard in all retina 15 inch machines, again it makes little difference they are all quad core hyper threaded cpus in the mobile sector at 45w. The 15 inch in 2013 had 8gb and 16gb options but 2014 onwards was 16gb only.

It’s only in the desktop cards that it makes any difference between i5 and i7 where the i5’s don’t get hyper threading.

I did give the model number as well as the emc #, just assumed that would have been enough.

I didn't realize they were all standard with i7's. The turbo boost clocks can make a difference and if you noticed the iGPU clocks are also different between the i7's that were offered (1200 - for the 2.4ghz, 1300mhz for the 2.7ghz and 1300mhz for the 2.8ghz + 2MB more cache).

I'm look at Apple's tech spec and I still can't figure this out. It doesn't say it's configurable when you have the 2.7ghz CPU and here what is copy and pasted from the Apple website. Seems 16GB ram and 512GB ssd are standard on the 2.7ghz, which I'm lack in both departments.
  • 2.7GHz quad-core
    16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
  • 2.7GHz quad-core
    512GB
    Configurable to 768GB flash storage.
I should also note this is the 3740QM and not the 3820QM. As told by terminal running
sysctl -n machdep.cpu.brand_string. Also windows reports the 3740QM via bootcamp.
